Aromya ceramic diffuser with aroma oil and tealight

How to Use a Ceramic Diffuser: Step-by-Step Guide and Best Scents for Every Room

A ceramic diffuser is one of the simplest and most beautiful ways to fill your home with fragrance. A small tealight candle gently warms water and aroma oil in the bowl, releasing scent into the room. This guide shows you how to use one properly and which scents work best in each room.

What you need

  • A ceramic diffuser (tealight oil burner)
  • A tealight candle
  • Aroma oil for diffusers
  • Water
  • A lighter or matches

How to use a ceramic diffuser: step by step

  1. Place it safely. Put the diffuser on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface, away from curtains, papers, children and pets.
  2. Add water to the bowl. Fill the top bowl about three-quarters full with water. The water stops the oil from overheating and helps the scent last longer.
  3. Add aroma oil. Add about 5 to 8 drops of aroma oil to the water. Start with fewer drops in a small room and add more if you want a stronger scent.
  4. Light the tealight. Light the candle and place it in the opening under the bowl.
  5. Enjoy. Within a few minutes, the warm water releases the fragrance.
  6. Top up water. Check the bowl regularly and add water before it runs dry. Never let the bowl burn empty.
  7. Put out the candle. Always put out the tealight before leaving the room or going to sleep.

Safety tips

  • Never leave a lit diffuser unattended.
  • Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
  • Let the bowl cool completely before cleaning or moving it.
  • Do not touch the bowl while the candle is lit; it gets hot.
  • Use aroma oils made for diffusers, and do not drink or apply them to skin.

How to clean your diffuser

Once the bowl is cool, wipe out leftover water and oil with a soft cloth or tissue. For sticky residue, use a little warm soapy water, then dry fully. Cleaning between scents keeps each fragrance fresh and true.

Best scents for every room

Room Scents to try Why
Living room Rose, lychee, orange Welcoming, cheerful scents for guests
Bedroom Lavender, sandalwood Soft, calm scents for a relaxing evening
Puja room Sandalwood, mogra, rose Traditional, peaceful fragrances
Office or study Orange, lemongrass-style fresh scents Fresh, light scents that do not overpower
Bathroom Watermelon, fresh florals Clean, bright scents

Try mixing two scents too: rose with sandalwood, or orange with lavender, for your own signature blend.

Ceramic diffuser vs electric diffuser

A ceramic diffuser needs no electricity, looks decorative and makes a lovely gift. An electric or ultrasonic diffuser is better if you want scent for many hours without a flame. Many homes use a ceramic diffuser in the evening and for special occasions, and an electric one during the day.
